Nikkhil Advani’s ‘The Empire’ to premiere on Hotstar in August

Filmmaker Nikkhil Advani today revealed the first trailer for his upcoming epic period-drama ‘The Empire’ which will be releasing on Hotstar later this month.

Reported on The New Indian Express, directed by Mitakshara Kumar and based on Alex Rutherford’s 2009 novel ‘Empire of the Moghul: Raiders from the North’, ‘The Empire’ traces the saga of an empire from the valley of Ferghana to Samarkhand and beyond. Speaking about his dream project, Advani said ‘The Empire’ will make for an unforgettable viewing experience for the viewers, “The narrative we are exploring is something none of the makers have ever attempted in the history of Indian entertainment and given this story a fictional and creative bent. It’s overwhelming to see the trailer receive resounding praises and we hope that it makes for an unforgettable viewing experience.”

Making his digital debut, Kunal Kapoor takes the lead role as the young emperor, ‘Zahir ud-Din Muhammad Babur’. Talking about his character, Kapoor shared he found it intriguing to play such a role, “We have heard many stories about Babur and the Mughals, but very little about who they were, where they came from and how they came into India. In this fictional take, this is a character with a lot of complexities, and that is what intrigued me as an actor.”

Kapoor is joined by an equally impressive ensemble cast featuring, Shabana Azmi, Drashti Dhami, Dino Morea, Aditya Seal, Sahher Bambba and Rahul Dev.

Veteran actor, Azmi said she enjoyed playing her character ‘Aisan Daulat Begum’ and hopes the audience will appreciate her too, “We have seen and read many stories but the ones that I love the most are where women play strategic roles; much like my character in ‘The Empire’, she is fierce, confident and knows what she wants. I hope the audience enjoys watching her as much as I enjoyed playing her.”

‘The Empire’ has been produced by Advani’s sisters, Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani under their banner Emmay Entertainment and all episodes will be available to watch from 27th August 2021.
