Producer Vashu Bhagnani has levelled serious accusations against streaming giant Netflix, claiming the platform has “cheated him” out of the rights to three of his films: ‘Hero No. 1’, ‘Mission Raniganj’, and ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’.
In an interview with The Economic Times, Bhagnani alleged that Netflix “cheated and conspired against the rights” to his productions. He has since filed a complaint against Los Gatos Production Services India, the company managing Netflix’s content investments in India, along with Zoo Digital India and several executives from both companies. The complaint has led to an inquiry by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police.
Bhagnani claims that he has not received Rs 47.37 crore owed to him for the subscription video on demand (SVOD) rights to these films, as outlined in their content license agreement.
Netflix has firmly denied the accusations, with a spokesperson stating, “These claims are completely unfounded. In fact, it’s Pooja Entertainment that owes Netflix money. We have a strong track record of partnership with the Indian creative community and are working with the authorities to resolve this dispute.”
