The highly anticipated biopic of Bollywood’s ‘Tragedy Queen’ Meena Kumari, directed by renowned designer Manish Malhotra and starring Kriti Sanon, has faced another delay. Originally slated to begin filming in October 2023, the project was first postponed to October 2024. Now, sources confirm that the production has been further delayed to early 2025.
According to insiders, the primary reason for the delay is ongoing script revisions. Malhotra, making his directorial debut with this film, is committed to ensuring the script’s perfection and has enlisted the help of multiple script doctors to achieve this.
A source revealed to Mid-Day, “The material will be vetted by multiple script doctors before it goes into filming. In a way, the delay might be good for the team. Since it’s a period drama, this allows them ample time for pre-production. Costumes are also a big part when recounting the story of one of Hindi cinema’s finest actors, and their recreation will take time. It will most likely roll in the first half of 2025.”
