BJP leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Harnath Singh Yadav has called on Bollywood actor Salman Khan to apologise to the Bishnoi community for what he described as a “big mistake.”
This stems from the 1998 blackbuck poaching incident during the filming of Hum Saath Saath Hain, in which Khan was involved. The blackbuck is revered as a sacred deity by the Bishnoi community, and its hunting deeply offended their religious sentiments.
Lawrence Bishnoi, a feared gangster, has held a long-standing grudge against Khan ever since the incident. Bishnoi, who was only five years old at the time of the poaching, has reportedly carried this resentment into his adulthood and criminal career, targeting the actor for more than two decades.
Yadav shared his sentiments on social media, stating in Hindi, “Dear Salman Khan, the Bishnoi community worships the blackbuck and considers it a deity. You hunted it, cooked it, and ate it. Because of this, the sentiments of the Bishnoi community were hurt, and there is anger against you.”
This situation has become even more tense with recent reports linking the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to the killing of politician Baba Siddique. The Mumbai Police suspect that the murder may have been carried out at Bishnoi’s behest, with a threatening message allegedly posted online targeting those who support Salman Khan and the Dawood Ibrahim gang. The police are investigating Shubham Rameshwar Lonkar, believed to be an associate of the Bishnoi gang, for his role in the post.
